Internships can be paid or unpaid.
Paid internships allow you to have a more compelling opportunity to attract top candidates. This allows you to get the best talent. Interns are usually not in it to make money – they want experience to add to their resume – so companies are getting a bargain to have a brilliant mind on their team for a nominal hourly rate.
Unpaid internships are still worthwhile for both companies and interns. Unpaid internships must be coordinated with universities to ensure the student can get college credit for their internship. This prevents any potential labor law lawsuits. While your internship opportunity may operate at a disadvantage in the competitive job marketplace, there will be candidates willing to work for college credit.
InternView highly recommends doing a paid internship over an unpaid.
